Leaf Shave Razor

Shaving seems to be a huge women’s issue at the moment, I’ll admit I love to shave. I really enjoy the smooth silky feeling of my legs after I have exfoliated, shaved, and moisturised. It has caused me to be on the receiving end of some criticism but I don’t care. What I do care about that my shaving is as ethical and sustainable as possible. Enter Leaf Shave Razors.

I used to use the Gilette Mach 3 razor, it had a metal handle and you changed the head. Unfortunately, the heads are a mix of plastic and metal, and virtually impossible to recycle. I knew I wanted to find a more sustainable alternative. I had been looking at safety razors but found them quite a scary proposition. I am a bit lazy and slap dash when it comes to shaving, I don’t want to have to spend 20 minutes slowly and carefully going over my body so I don’t end up slicing myself to ribbons. I knew there had to be another option out there, and that’s when I found Leaf Shave on Instagram.

Leaf Shave

A plastic-free shave people actually love.
We reinvented the razor. Someone needed to do it (humbly, in our opinion) and so we did.
Metal straws are popping out of reusable tumblers. People are investing in fewer, but better things. And disposable plastic razor cartridges just don’t cut it anymore. That pun — was intended.
Leaf Shavers embrace a quality tool and recognize the cost savings associated with owning their shaving experience. The result is a completely different model for our business.

Review

I know many people might look at the Leaf Shave razor and think that the price makes it totally prohibitive, I saved up for months so I could get one……and then had something (I can’t remember if it was the fridge, my phone, or my hard drive) break and I had to use the money I’d saved to get it fixed. This happened twice. I couldn’t believe it.

I ended up posting about it (the various disasters) in my Instagram stories and Leaf Shave contacted me, offering to send me one. I have to admit I felt really awkward about it because of knowing they are quite an expensive item, and I didn’t want it to seem like I had been assuming anything. Especially as they were careful to stress that they were sending it with no expectation or requirement for me to review or post about it. They just appreciated how much of a supporter of their brand I was.

When it arrived I was super excited not only is their razor sustainable but the packaging is too. The box is card, even the insert that holds the razor, and they included some spare blades and a little tin to put the used blades in.
Can we take a moment to admire just how beautiful this razor is?!?! Like seriously, how aesthetically pleasing is this product?

Leaf is a safety razor, and does use the same blades as all safety razors. However, the unique design means you need to snap each blade in half, and then you put them in the ‘carrier’. It is designed to take 3 of these half blades but I only use two. My leg hair is coarse but (due to years of getting waxed) it is a bit sparse, so I really don’t feel like I need three.
Leaf Shave also included instructions on how to ‘snap’ your standard safety razor blades so they fit into your Leaf.

I shave my legs once a week (very occasionally twice if I feel like it), my underarms twice a week, my bikini line every two weeks, and my arms every few months. I have found I need to change blades every 6 – 8 weeks ish. I am aware that there can be a big difference between blade brands as well, and that can make the amount of shaves you get out of them vary by quite a lot. I don’t mind having to change the blades though because they are completely recyclable. You just need a way to store the used blades before dropping them at a local recycling centre. I know people who use an empty can (steel obviously) with tape over the top.

The Leaf Shave razor has a lovely weight to it, and it feels really really nice in your hand. I love how flexible the head is because it means I can shave anywhere on my body with ease, and it gives a lovely finish without having to go slowly, or take any extra care. I also really feel like it gives a closer shave than the standard disposable style razor. I wish I could get a decent photo or video of the way the head moves, because the pivoting action is one of the things that makes this razor so amazing.

Overall

It might seem like a lot of money but it is the last razor you will ever need to buy. Once you have the razor you can buy packs of blades for about £10 for 100…….which for me would last me 12 years (if I did the maths correctly).
So the cost of the razor plus the cost of 100 blades = £75
Divided by 12 years = £6.25 per year.
How much do you spend on shaving?

Even if you don’t care about being sustainable, surely you care about saving money, and that is a massive saving.
And did I mention the Leaf Shave is totally worth the money. The build quality is phenomenal, and the ease of use is brilliant. I love mine.

  2. Hi there. I just found your post and video surfing for information about Leafshave razors. I am a vegan seeking a vegan/vegan friendly shaving choice.
Since your post is not time stamped I don’t know how old your video is. So, I have some questions. Do you still have your razor? Is it worth the money? Does it still work well? Do you recommend it as a vegan/vegan friendly shaving choice?

    • Hi,

Post date for articles on my website is right at the top. It says posted on, and gives the date.

I’ve had the Leafshave for about 4 months now, and I love it. I change the blades every 6 weeks (still only using 2 halves rather than 3).

Definitely a great eco friendly option, and yes it is vegan as long as you use a vegan friendly soap with it.

      • Sorry my reply took so long, for some reason WordPress didn’t tell me I had a comment until I updated it just today. 😞

Really glad you got one, and you’re happy with it, though. ☺️
