Revolucion De Cuba

A few months ago I was invited to try the new vegan menu at Revolucion de Cuba. They were kind enough to ask me if I would like to bring a friend with me for lunch.

Arriving at Revolucion De Cuba

When we arrived we were given tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa. I am usually all about the guac but this salsa was amazing. Very fresh, and a little bit smokey with a kick of citrus. They also brought us a couple of cocktails; a classic mojito and a raspberry mojito.

The vegan menu is amazing, and there are plenty of choices including a chilli, burrito and paella. They seemed to have worked really hard to make sure they gave you plenty of options. And creating a range of different flavours and textures in their items.

I really wanted to be able to try a range of dishes for this review. Luckily my friend was happy to order a mix of things that we could share. We ordered three of the tapas dishes (Beet & Avocado Tacos, Sauteed Tofu with Romesco, and the Garlic Mushrooms), one main (PaellaVegano), and two sides (Padron Peppers, and the Spiced Black Beans).

Tapas

I loved everything we tried from the tapas selection. They had minced the beetroot, and balanced the spice really well. The fresh sliced chillies, and cool guac were perfect.
The tofu was firm and flavourful, with a little hint of charred smokiness. I only ate one piece of sprout so I could try it, and let my friend eat the rest (I really don’t like sprouts).
The mushrooms were in a lovely creamy sauce that was made using white beans and had a good amount of garlic. I really liked them but it would have been nice to have some bread or toast to go with them.

Mains and Sides

The Paella was beautiful, with lovely big chunks of chargrilled courgette, finely diced red pepper, peas, and two big stalks of asparagus. I also really appreciated that they served it with a small salad on the side.
I liked the peppers too, they were the standard charred padron peppers you get with many tapas, or in Mexican restaurants.
The only item that disappointed me was the Spiced Black Beans, and it wasn’t that they were terrible. They were fine, I just found them a little bit bland compared to all the other amazing flavours. That being said they were well cooked, and had a good texture.

Dessert

Then (obviously) we had to try the dessert. It was very nice but the name was just a little bit misleading. When something is called chocolate and raspberry slice I don’t expect a vanilla cake. It was lovely, and I really enjoyed it but it shouldn’t have chocolate in the name.Drizzling chocolate sauce on a vanilla cake doesn’t make it chocolate. It was very nice though.

Overall

If you’re a vegan looking for somewhere different to try for lunch I highly recommend going to Revolucion De Cuba. The food is amazing, the atmosphere relaxed, and the staff were lovely. Plus the prices on the menu were really reasonable.
