Things I Loved in May

Personal Post

I am hoping to make this post Things I loved in May, the first part of a monthly series. I’ll be honest it will probably be quite heavily food focussed. But I will try to add in other things as well. Here I discuss food, podcasts, YouTube and books.

Things I Loved in May

Food: I discovered two accidentally vegan food items this month, both from Marks and Spencers. They’re also both what I would consider occasional foods rather than regular indulgences. One makes a perfect Sunday breakfast, or sweet breakfast on the go. The other is a delicious sweet treat.

Here we have the M&S Iced Fruit Bun. The bun itself isn’t overly sweet but has plenty of plump juicy raisins in, and the icing on top adds just enough sweetness to balance it all out. Goes perfectly with a coffee (or if you prefer, tea). Costs £1.35 for a two pack.

Then we have the Italian Gianduja Bar with whole hazelnuts. This is soooooo fricking good. It tastes like nutella in a bar. If you were ever a fan of the spread this is the bar for you. It is amazing, and really yummy. The taste is also very similar to the Vego bars you can get. Costs £1.50 for a 65g bar.

Other Stuff: This month I finished reading Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker, this was a really fascinating book that took me forever to read because of the amount of technical detail and studies it cites. I have started reading How Not to Die by Dr Micheal Greger, it’s another interesting one full of technical (medical) details. However, I have to admit I am finding it much easier going than Why We Sleep, maybe that’s because I do have an interest in nutrition and the benefits of a plant-based whole-food diet, so I am more engaged with the topic.

I’ve never been much of a YouTube before, I didn’t really get it but lately I have discovered some channels I love, and I seem to have fallen down the YouTube rabbit hole. The first blog I subscribed to has had a huge impact on me. It made me realise if I ever want to do the thing I have been talking about doing for a few years (become a digital nomad) then I needed to start doing things to make it closer to being a reality. It made me realise my first step had to be minimalism. This wonderfully inspirational YouTuber is Lisa of Vegan Nomad Chick. Who was kind enough to do a video answering a question I asked via her Facebook page. I love watching Lisa’s videos and catching up on what’s going on with her and her husband. I especially liked watching them convert a van into their new home.  Please consider checking out her channel, and giving her a follow. 🙂

I have two podcasts I loved this month. The first is The ChickPeeps, hosted by actress Evanna Lynch (Luna in Harry Potter), and her co-hosts Momoko Hill, Robbie Jarvis and Tylor Starr. I love the way they talk about things and the way they respond to each other. Even when I don’t agree with them I still like hearing the discussion.  The other is How To Vegan from Kristen Emily, a certified Vegan Health Coach and a super devoted advocate for animal rights. I really enjoy listening to this one, I like her attitude, and how relaxed and open she is. She obviously just wants to help people, and she really seems to care. She also runs an awesome Facebook group of the same name.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into things I loved this month. Please comment below with any vegan podcasts, YouTube Channels, or books you think I should take a look at.
