Eat Street Belfast

Restaurant Review

I love travelling, even just in the UK, and one of the things I love most is finding new places (like Eat Street Belfast) to eat out. My main requirement tends to be somewhere that has reasonable prices, it also helps if it is something I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) make at home.

Eat Street Belfast

Over the summer I visited a friend in Belfast. We walked past this place a few times but it looked like a typical greasy spoon type cafe so I didn’t really pay any attention. It was only when I was having a look on the Happy Cow app, that I noticed a place listed, and realised that was it.

My lovely friend asked if I wanted to have lunch there, and after checking the menu I knew I definitely did. We both ordered the Iced Peach and Mint Tea, while we perused the EatStreet menu. Two items jumped out at me straight away and I had a tough decision to make. So I asked my friend what she was fancying, turned out we fancied the same. So I ordered the Tofish and chips, and my friend got the seitan ribs with ‘cheesy’ mash.

It was all amazing. The tofish tasted great, the texture and flavour were really good. The batter was light and crisp, the chips were crunchy outside and soft in the middle. They were more fries than chips, which was a shame but the mushy peas, salad, and tartare sauce were lovely….and I don’t usually like tartare sauce. As far as meals go I really enjoyed it (and my friend liked it so much that she ordered it herself next time we went).

The seitan ribs had a lovely smoked flavour with a nice hint of spice, the mash had a slight amount cheesiness without being too sickly, and the greens had the perfect balance of garlic (we took the leftovers home and had them for lunch the next day). I really liked this dish, it felt indulgent. My only complaint is that the seitan was a bit soft, I would have preferred a slightly firmer texture but I forgive them because the flavour was so fricking good.

We went back a few days later, my friend had the tofish but I decided to try something different, so I ordered the ‘bacon & cheese’ burger. I have to admit the texture was too much for me, the look and texture was very meat like. I only managed to eat a quarter of it but I took the rest home, and found I preferred the texture when it had cooled off, as it firmed up. The flavours were really nice though, and I liked the coleslaw.

They also had a selection of cupcakes, cookies, brownies and dessert bars but I was too full to take advantage.

You can check them out online. They have Facebook and Instagram. Have a look at their accounts for some great photos.

If you are in Belfast I highly recommend a visit to this little unassuming place.
