Food on the Go

Food Review

Today I wanted to talk about food on the go. We all have those days when we just didn’t have time to go shopping and therefore couldn’t pack our lunch, so we have to resort to buying something on the go. I might end up making this a series. We shall see. As a vegan there aren’t always loads of options. Things are getting better but where you live can have a huge impact on the options available to you. For example, I know people who rave about the new vegan options at Boots (a massive chemist chain here in the UK who also do lunch and snacks). Except the massive (2 floors) Boots in my nearest city sells one vegan sandwich (the sweetcorn fritter one), that’s it. No salad, no vegan sushi, no new sandwiches or deli platters. It can be really disappointing when people talk about these great vegan options, and you can’t access them.

So after trying Boots and really not fancying the sweetcorn fritter sandwich (funny story – if it had been on a wrap rather than bread I probably would have bought it). I decided to give M&S a shot. It is opposite Boots, and although it is more expensive I know they’ve been improving their vegan range lately.

I found some great options. I was torn between two different sandwiches, I ended up choosing this one:

This was roasted veg with avocado, it also had spinach in malted grain bread. It was really tasty, the bread was soft without falling apart and the filling was moist without being soggy. I’d happily eat this again, although next time I want to try the other sandwich which had beetroot bread.  I also got these little snack pots to try:

These were beetroot and mint bite with beetroot ketchup, and carrot and pumpkin seed bites with carrot and cannelloni bean humous. My favourite of these was definitely the Beetroot one. It had such a great flavour, earthy but also sweet. Really tasty. I’d definitely buy this one again. The carrot one wasn’t as nice, the texture was strange, and the dip tasted very watery. It just couldn’t compare to the beetroot.

Overall

The sandwich and beetroot bites were delicious and I would definitely have them again. The carrot bites were really underwhelming, and I wouldn’t get them again.
