Yo Sushi

Restaurant Review

Today I’m reviewing Yo Sushi. I have always loved sushi before I was vegan I would have a mix of sashimi and sushi but now I just skip the raw fish. Now, I could make it at home (and sometimes do) but I’m going to be honest it’s just not the same.

I always loved Yo Sushi. I like the premise, and the rotating belt where you can just pick what you want. However, I do think it can be expensive, so it is a rare treat for me. That’s why I was so excited when they brought back Green Wednesday.

Yo Sushi Green Wednesday Menu

This is now the best day of the week, the day when 20 dishes all become green plates and are just £2.30 each, even some that are usually £4 or £5. Including the new Mushroom Teriyaki Burger but more about that later.

Once I’d looked at the menu, I ordered some hot items from the menu, and then grabbed myself some edamame from the conveyer belt to eat while I waited.

The first dish I was given was the new mushroom burger. I wish there had been slightly more mushroom, and that the onions had been more finely chopped but the flavours were really good, and the bun was soft and fluffy. I really liked it but if the portion size is the same one as you’d get if you’d paid £4 I would be quite disappointed.

Then I got some things I always get; veggie gyoza, kaiso (seaweed) salad, and a portion of avocado maki (no photo because I just scoffed them all). I had all this with lots of pickled ginger, and some wasabi and soy sauce.

I finished up with the Pumpkin Katsu Curry. I love this, and for just £2.30 you get a good amount of rice and sauce. It definitely filled me up.

I did also order the new tender stem broccoli with sesame but it turned out to be a cold dish. Cold soggy broccoli is really not something I want to eat so I didn’t eat it, and they happily offered to remove the cost from my bill. So yeah, if you get that just be prepared (I have noticed on the main menu it IS listed as a salad but on the Green Wednesday the section is salads and sides so not as clear that it’s a cold dish). I do wish they had one of the warm vegan sides (vegetable) dishes on the Green Wednesday menu but it is still fantastic.

For some people this will be the important part, so they do have two vegan dessert options (a chocolate pot and a fruit plate) but I was too full to take advantage……and in all honesty I’d rather have another savoury plate than desert.

You can check their website to find a restaurant near you.

If you are near a Yo Sushi on a Wednesday I definitely recommend a visit.
